Obras arruinadas por negligencia o intentos de restauración
Works ruined by negligence or restoration attempts

Existen varias obras arruinadas, mientras que algunas se han podido recuperar, otras no han corrido la misma suerte, esto debido a que los daños son irreparables, muy caros o por decisiones de las personas a cargo de dejarlas como están. Entre estas obras existen tanto esculturas como pinturas, algunos ejemplos son la Piedad de Miguel Ángel, una escultura con cerca de 500 años que se encuentra en la Basílica de San pedro en el Vaticano, en 1972 fue atacada con un martillo por Laszlo Toth (Gamero, 2013), el resultado fue un brazo menos, una nariz y un párpado; una víctima de un intento de restauración fue El niño Jesús perteneciente a una iglesia de Ontario en Canadá (ChurchPOP, 2018), Heather Wise fue la encargada de la fallida restauración y para realizar este trabajo argumentó que había realizado un curso de bellas artes; El Jarrón de Portland es una vasija que tiene cerca de 2000 años de antigüedad, pero en 1845, William Lloyd llegó en estado de ebriedad al Museo Británico, lugar en el que se encuentra el objeto desde 1810, el resultado fue la destrucción en varios fragmentos del jarro por un tropiezo del sujeto, por suerte esta obra pudo ser reconstruida y aún se encuentra en el museo; intentos de mala restauración fueron San Jorge de Estella y el Ecce Homo de Borja, la primera es una escultura del siglo XVI y se encuentra en San Miguel de Navarra y la segunda en el Santuario de Misericordia de Borja, ambas obras en España, en el caso del Ecce Homo, cuyo autor original fue Elías García Martínez en el Siglo XIX, el intento de restauración realizado por Cecilia Giménez, aún se conserva, debido a los altos costes de volver a la obra original y porque al convertirse en un fenómeno de internet, ha derivado en el aumento del turismo de la zona.
